Online rune reading

Ask the runes a question

Think of a question and choose runes from the face-down stones. You don’t have to write the question down; the rune will point to what deserves your attention.

How it works

  1. Think of a question

Choose a spread (from the rune of the day to the rune cross) and put your question into words. You don’t have to type it in: keeping it in mind is enough.

  2. Choose your runes

The runes are mixed and laid face down. Pick the number of stones you need yourself, or press “Choose for me”.

  3. Read the meaning

The runes are revealed, each with its meaning and a piece of advice. The link below each rune leads to its full page.

Rune spreads: which to choose and how to read them

Which spread to choose

There are two common ways to consult runes: rune casting, where a handful of stones is thrown and read where they land, and drawing runes for set positions. This online rune reading uses drawing. The rune of the day is a brief pointer for today. It needs no question, you can draw it once a day, and it doesn’t use up your free readings. “Yes or no” suits a direct question: the rune leans towards yes or no, or leaves the question open, and the text beneath it explains why.

Three spreads use three runes. “Three runes” takes a situation step by step: what is happening, what action fits now and where that step may lead. The Norns spread looks at time: the past, the present and the likely future. The love rune spread shows what you bring, how the other person is showing up and what connects you. For a situation with several sides there is the rune cross of five runes: to the past, the present and the outcome it adds what stands in the way and what will help. In any spread the result is a direction, not a verdict.

How to read a rune

An upright rune speaks of its theme at full strength. A reversed one doesn’t spell misfortune: its theme can’t find a way out yet (your energy is low, something is in the way or you’re holding yourself back). Nine runes, such as Gebo and Isa, look the same upside down, so they always come up upright. If you’d rather not use reversals, untick “Include reversed runes”. Position matters too: in “The situation” a rune describes what is already there, while in “Action” it suggests a step. In “Three runes” the position text comes first, with the general meaning below.

How runes differ from tarot

Each of the 78 tarot cards is a whole scene, with figures and details you can study at length. A rune is a sign of a few straight lines, and each of the 24 carries an image of its own: “torch”, “water”, “harvest”. So the answer is shorter and more direct: a rune doesn’t tell a story but suggests one key thought: what to rely on, what to let go of, where to begin. For a tangled story with many people involved, a detailed tarot spread works better. The free limit covers both, so choose whichever suits your question.

Frequently asked questions about rune reading

Is rune reading free?

Yes, three readings a month without a subscription, and the limit is shared with tarot. You can see how many readings are left below the button. The rune of the day doesn’t count towards the limit: you can draw it once a day, even when your free readings have run out.

Do I need an account?

Not for a reading. Choose a spread, add a question if you like and draw the runes: the site doesn’t ask for a name or email. The AI interpretation of the spread opens after a free sign-in. Each reading has its own link: save it to come back to the meaning later.

Who can see my question?

Anyone with the link to your reading: the question is saved with it so you can open the meaning again later. Keep that in mind before sharing the link. A reading is kept for 30 days (12 months with a subscription) and then deleted along with the question.

Does the stone I pick affect the result?

Yes. When you start a reading, the server shuffles all 24 runes with a random number generator, and the stone you pick reveals the rune lying in its place. Nobody knows in advance which rune is where, so the choice stays random, just as with a real bag of runes: pick calmly, with your question in mind.
